Our Hearts Are With California ❤️

To everyone impacted by the devastating fires in California, our hearts go out to you. 💔 The challenges of navigating emergencies like this are immense, especially for those already on a fertility journey or who are currently pregnant.

A story from The 19th underscored the alarming dangers of prolonged wildfire smoke exposure, which can persist for weeks and pose serious health risks. Among these are an increased likelihood of preterm births and low birth weights. These risks disproportionately impact people of color and low-income communities, who often face additional challenges such as substandard housing, outdoor occupations that increase exposure, and limited resources to relocate from areas with poor air quality. As Los Angeles recovers, coming together as a community can make all the difference.

If you know of other resources that could help those affected, please share them in the comments. Let’s come together to support one another during this time. We’re holding you close in our thoughts. 💛

And if you want to do some reading into the future of a world with more wildfires and climate change, remember the works of Black sci-fi writer Octavia Butler, like Parable of the Sower because #octaviatriedtotellus.
